The Guizhou Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment recently recommended 12 regions to apply for approval as National Eco-Civilization Demonstration Zones and National "Lucid Waters and Lush Mountains Are Invaluable Assets" Practice and Innovation Bases, with four areas in Guiyang included on the list.

Nanming district, Baiyun district, and Xiuwen county were recommended for designation as demonstration zones, while Yunyan district was recommended as a national practice and innovation base.

Nanming district has advanced ecological progress by building a reclaimed water plant, carrying out major ditch treatment projects, improving black and odorous water bodies, and fully promoting the river chief system, which has significantly enhanced the water quality of the Nanming River.

Baiyun district has invested more than 3 billion yuan ($420.9 million) in watershed management, including the Maijia River, while simultaneously restoring the ecosystems of Dingshan and Qingshan mountains. The district has also expanded urban green space by 50,000 square meters, improved sewage treatment capacity to 150,000 metric tons per day, and achieved a forest coverage rate of 46.28 percent, enabling residents to enjoy substantial ecological benefits.

Xiuwen county has made significant strides in building a "zero-waste city", with industrial solid waste utilization and medical waste disposal both reaching 100 percent.

Yunyan district, as one of Guiyang's old urban areas, has improved the Guancheng River, upgraded its rain and sewage pipeline system, and revitalized unused industrial heritage sites, integrating ecological restoration with landscape transformation.
