The 2024 Eco Forum Global Guiyang seminar commenced on Sept 25. Some 100 attendees gathered to exchange ideas, share green transition experiences, and provide insights into pollution prevention, all while building consensus on the importance of eco-civilization.

This seminar focused on strategic planning for the 2025 forum. Discussions centered on the forum's strategic direction, theme development, and structural innovations, laying the groundwork for a forum that addresses global ecological challenges.

High-quality organization and green transition

Since its inception in 2009, the Eco Forum Global Guiyang is China's only national-level international platform focused on ecological civilization. As the world shifts toward green recovery and sustainable growth, green and low-carbon became the most frequently discussed terms at this year's seminar, as participants exchanged ideas on global ecological progress.

2025 marks a significant milestone as it is the final year of China's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) and a crucial period for the country's ecological strategy moving into the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30). Globally, it coincides with the 10th anniversary of both the UN's 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement. Participants emphasized the importance of the 2025 forum in promoting global ecological cooperation and providing actionable solutions for sustainable development.

High-quality discussions & strategic topics for 2025

This year's seminar introduced a new advisory board, composed of leaders from politics, academia, and business sectors, to guide the forum from an international and strategic perspective. This advisory board is expected to play a critical role in shaping the forum's agenda, policy direction, and intellectual output, elevating its influence on the global stage.

Discussions at the seminar highlighted key themes such as waste-free cities, biodiversity, and climate change in the 2025 agenda. Experts emphasized that the forum should continue to be a platform for gathering global insight and solutions to ecological challenges, thus expanding its impact.

Pathways to implementation

The seminar facilitated collaboration by establishing a partner network and engaging stakeholders from governments, academia, and industry. This network fosters practical cooperation, shares ecological expertise, and encourages innovation in sustainable practices. Over 10 global ecological organizations have already signed partnership agreements, committing to the forum's objectives.

Ultimately, the seminar served as a foundation for the 2025 forum, ensuring that dialogue and practical actions shape a greener and more sustainable future.
