Reservoir in Guiyang and Gui'an protected

The Songbai Mountain Reservoir is a crucial drinking water source protection area for Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area, Southwest China's Guizhou province, serving as not only a source of drinking water, but also providing functions such as flood control, irrigation, water transfer, and ecological water use.

To provide high-quality water resources to Guiyang and Gui'an, the reservoir relies on the protection of grassroots river chiefs from nine villages in the basin.

Wu Hongde is the Party branch secretary of Kuihuashan village in Gui'an and serves as the village-level river chief in the Songbai Mountain Reservoir basin. He often takes a boat out to clear branches and weeds from the surface of the water.

Wu is just one of Guiyang and Gui'an's 1,356 village-level river chiefs.

Thanks to the joint protection efforts of water environment-related government departments and the river chiefs, the water quality of the Songbai Mountain Reservoir has consistently remained at Class II or above.

In June of this year, it was included in the 2024 list of Beautiful Rivers and Lakes in Guizhou Province, jointly selected by the Guizhou Department of Ecology and Environment and the Guizhou Department of Water Resources.
