The Guiyang Ecological Environment Science Research Institute, in collaboration with the Ministry of Ecology and Environment's Solid Waste and Chemicals Management Technology Center, recently completed the 2023 "Zero-waste City" development assessment for Guiyang.
The assessment results indicate that Guiyang has achieved some progress in advancing the "Zero-waste City" initiative across the entire city, establishing a model and pathway for such development.
Guiyang has already met the 2025 targets ahead of schedule for 21 indicators, including the proportion of green buildings among new constructions, comprehensive utilization rates of straw and livestock and poultry manure, agricultural film recycling rate, household waste recycling rate, and the centralized harmless disposal rate of dead livestock and poultry.
The city has achieved 100-percent coverage in household waste classification in residential areas, the collection and disposal system for medical waste, harmless disposal of urban sewage sludge, environmental pollution liability insurance coverage for hazardous waste operating units, filing rate of criminal cases involving solid waste environmental pollution, and resolution rate of complaints and reports involving solid waste.
Additionally, Guiyang has innovated with "internet + smart recycling" to promote the recycling of renewable resources, and has developed a "full coverage, full collection, full treatment, and full process" model for medical waste.
