Wetland park in Guiyang acts to control tree pests

As the weather warms up, pests hiding in tree trunks at Aha Lake National Wetland Park in Guiyang – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – have begun to aggressively infest them.

To control the pests, on April 17, staff members at the park manually placed predatory insects onto the trees.

The approach utilizes "biological control" – which mimics natural biological chains, utilizing the diversity of insects and their mutual constraints to achieve pest control.

It's said that this method of control has clear pest control targets, does not harm other predatory insects and birds, does not pollute the environment, does not damage trees and ensures the safety of visitors and pedestrians.

Moreover, it helps enhance the natural pest control ability of the ecosystem, protecting biodiversity and ecological security.

In the control effort, the management office placed 500 adult predatory insects and 1,200 cards attached with insect eggs, with plans to place another 800 cards with attached insect eggs in mid-May.
