Qicai Lake in Baiyun district, Guiyang city, was originally a polluted and smelly pond. After comprehensive treatment, it has transformed into an urban park in recent years. Next to the park, a reclaimed water plant was built to provide continuous ecological replenishment.
"I come to the park to exercise almost every day because I live nearby," said Li Guozhen, a resident of the Yuncheng Shangpin Community.
In April 2017, China Water Environment Group signed a cooperation agreement with Baiyun District Infrastructure and Construction Investment Group Co to form Guizhou Yunxin Water Environment Industry Co. This new company was created to implement the Qicai Lake Water Environment Comprehensive Treatment Project.
After dredging the lake and river, a ground-buried reclaimed water plant with a daily processing capacity of 20,000 cubic meters was built. It treats daily domestic sewage for nearly 100,000 people that live around Qicai Lake.
The reclaimed water plant can provide approximately seven million cubic meters of high-quality reclaimed water to Qicai Lake each year. After natural ecological circulation treatment, it flows downstream to the Maijia River, realizing ecological and sustainable water replenishment.
In addition, Yunxin Water Environment Industry Co has planted thousands of trees and more than 10,000 cubic meters of astroturf grass around Qicai Lake. They have also introduced fish fry, shellfish, algae, and other flora and fauna into the lake, gradually forming a wetland ecosystem. Qicai Lake Park officially opened to the public in April 2019.
