Guiyang's forest coverage has reached 55.3 percent, ranking third among provincial capitals nationwide, according to a press conference on Nov 6 organized by the Guiyang municipal government.

As the first national forest city in China, Guiyang in Southwest China's Guizhou province took the lead in implementing a land greening enhancement initiative. Since 2020, the city has created 700,400 hectares of forest land.

In 2023 alone, the city planted 4.76 million indigenous trees covering an area of 78,000 mu (5,200 hectares) through initiatives like afforestation projects and voluntary tree planting, significantly boosting the forest coverage rate.

Simultaneously, Guiyang has intensified efforts to prevent and control forestry disasters in recent years, keeping the forest fire incidence rate below 0.6 per thousand and the incidence rate of harmful forestry pests below 2 per thousand.
