The fifth "2023 Peak Guizhou" International Vertical Marathon – authorized as TWA60 level by the Towerrunning World Association – was held in Guiyang on Sept 23.
At 9 am on that day, 300 competitors from China and abroad set off on the first floor of a hotel and climbed its stairs to the 55th floor.
The competition has become an important sporting event in Guiyang. It is meant to encourage people to take less elevators and climb more stairs to reduce carbon emissions and help China achieve carbon neutrality.
Su Weiqing from Malaysia won the men's group with a time of 7 minutes and 1 second, breaking the previous record. Jiang Dongmei from Guizhou province in China won the women's title with a time of 9 minutes 44 seconds.
Su said he hopes to achieve a time of no more than seven minutes next time.
As one of the organizers, the Guiyang bureau of ecology and environment is committed to cultivating public habits of combining exercise with low-carbon behavior, as well as protecting the environment.
