Du Peng, an ecology and environment inspector from the Guizhou Ecology and Environment Department, led a team to Guiyang to carry out supervision work on its "zero-waste city" on Aug 24.

Guiyang is the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

The team visited Guizhou Tianzhiyuan Environmental Protection Technology Development Co to check its recycling and treatment of waste electrical and electronic products. It also inspected the company's recycling and dismantling of scrap cars, its treatment of medical waste, and the recycling and use of waste-infusion bottles.

They also visited the Guizhou and Guiyang Treatment and Disposal Center for Hazardous and Medical Wastes to check up on the centralized disposal of hazardous waste – including the destruction of precursor chemicals – and medical waste.

After the on-site supervision, the team held a discussion with relevant departments of the  Guiyang government, and listened to the work report on the building of a zero-waste city in Guiyang.

At the symposium, the team confirmed the phased results in building the zero-waste city were all on track, and said that, in the future, Guizhou will continue to support the city's work.

Guiyang was also urged to overcome the pain points encountered in terms of solid waste management, promote the "zero-waste" concept, and create a new image of Guiyang as a zero-waste city.
