At the awards ceremony for the "Garbage Classification New Fashion with Public Participation" event held on Aug 26, an activity sponsored by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Guiyang clinched first prize in the "Award of Public Participation of Household Waste Classification" category.
The event began on May 26 and ended on Aug 5. It comprised activities such as getting the public to participate online in classifying waste at urban landmarks – to help local residents cultivate good habits in terms of classifying household waste.
Almost 360,000 residents of Guiyang participated in the event overall. Guiyang rose above 297 other cities at or above the prefecture level in China to pocket the top prize of the "Award of Public Participation of Household Waste Classification" category.
Guiyang City and Guian New Area will next strive to promote the concept of "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets" while also serving as a model practitioner of this idea.
