In order to improve the emergency response capabilities of emergency water pollution incidents in key river basins, a joint drill for emergency incidents in water environmental pollution was successfully carried out in Xifeng county, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, on Aug 17.
A total of more than 50 related units and enterprises in the province, city and county participated in the drill.

Simulated pesticide packaging waste fell into the river around Xiwang Mountain in Xifeng county, resulting in a sharp rise in the concentration of organophosphorus, heavy metals and other pollutants in the river, and the water quality rapidly deteriorated. If disposal is not timely and scientific, it is very likely to pollute the Xifeng River, located 3.3 kilometers downstream, and Wujiang River, located less than 30 kilometers downstream, and even cause cross-city water pollution incidents.

During the drill, the Xifeng county and Guiyang city governments sent responsible units to the scene to participate in the disposal and reported the situation to the Guizhou Department of Ecology and Environment for support.
Finally, by building dams, building emergency pools, closing Dahekou Dam and more, governments blocked the migration of pollutants downstream. Downstream water quality indicators were normal, pollution sources were brought under control, and pollutants were recovered.
