The innovative practices deployed in managing Guiyang's Nanming River were recognized as an exemplary model in terms of demonstrating how to control a polluted body of water, according to a press conference held on July 4 highlighting the results of the Eco Forum Global Guiyang 2023.
Ensuring the high-quality of water in river basins is among the key tasks in promoting ecological civilization construction in China.
After having been successfully treated, the Nanming River channel has not been desilted for 10 years, the coverage rate of submerged plants has reached 80 percent, and the ecological water supply has reached 500 million metric tons per year, establishing a sustainable ecological river health system.
Guiyang is the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province. Regarding its treatment process, Guizhou has formed an innovative technological system described as a "distributed sinking reclaimed water ecosystem" for city-scale sewage treatment and resource utilization according to the characteristics of urban drainage, functional zoning, and resource utilization.
A total of 33 reclaimed water plants have been built along the main stretch of the Nanming River as well as along its tributaries, and 185 kilometers of the river has been ecologically restored.
The innovative practice of Nanming River governance has been promoted and applied in 22 provinces across the country.
Meanwhile, the technical system deployed there is the only technology in the field of green new infrastructure as applied to waterways recommended by five national ministries and commissions, including the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology, providing a comprehensive solution for water and environmental governance.
