The quality of the local water environment and resources in Guiyang and Guian New Area generally improved in 2022, according to a recently held press conference analyzing the ecology and environmental status of the two regions.
Last year, all 28 national and provincial controlled sections in Guiyang reached the standard level in terms of the quality of the water of their lakes, rivers and ponds, whereas 96.43 percent of the sections reached a "good" (higher) level of water quality.
Both provincial-controlled sections in Guian met the "good" level in terms of environmental water quality.
At the same time, the quality of centralized drinking water sources above the county level in Guiyang and Guian all reached the standard level.
In 2022, Guiyang made substantial efforts to treat and improve substandard rivers, with 98.13 percent of Guiyang's 107 rivers reaching the national standard.
Among them, the water quality of the Daniwo, Chetian, Maijia, Xiuwen, Macha and other rivers – all known for their poor water quality – was significantly improved.
Efforts were also made to control phosphorus pollution in the waterways of Guiyang and Guian, and the risk of total phosphorus pollution in the Wujiang River has now been generally contained.
Furthermore, the centralized drinking water sources in the two regions were improved.
