Guiyang, Guian make strides in ecological protection

Guiyang municipal government released a communique on the ecological and environmental status of Guiyang and Guian New Area in 2022, at a press conference held on May 30.

According to the communique, the quality of Guian's ecology and environment quality was generally stable and of a good quality last year.

Both areas reached the national standards for ambient air quality for all 365 days, with the rate of good air quality reaching 100 percent for the first time, marking a historic breakthrough.

The water quality in Guiyang and Guian was also generally of a good quality. Last year, the water quality of 28 national and provincial controlled sections in Guiyang reached the standard level 100 percent of the time. 

Two provincial-level areas in Guian maintained good water quality all year-round.

In terms of solid waste prevention and control, Guiyang completed registering and declaring 5,615 hazardous waste enterprises. 100 percent of the general industrial solid waste in Guiyang and Guian was disposed of in a sanitary way.

Moreover, Guiyang strengthened its enforcement of environmental laws in a comprehensive manner. Last year its law enforcement department inspected enterprises a total of 10,400 times, and fined enterprises a total of 19.59 million yuan ($2.75 million) for illegal operations.

Next, Guiyang and Guian will strengthen the comprehensive management of their ecology and environment, and further ramp up their commitment to pollution prevention and control.
