Ancient trees are the carriers of a city's cultural preservation and the living fossils of a city's history.
In recent years, Guiyang has comprehensively promoted the protection of its ancient and famous trees, relying on big data to make forest protection more accurate. According to the latest statistics, there are 4,033 ancient trees in Guiyang.
In 2011, the construction of Guiyang forest resources management information system (Phase I) started. In 2015, Guiyang became the second batch of national demonstration cities for forestry informatization. Since then, the "electronic household registration" of all ancient and famous trees was recorded on the Guiyang smart forestry cloud platform.
"Each ancient tree has a signboard hanging on it. You can scan its QR code to see the species and age of the tree," said Zhou Jun, chief of the plant division of Guiyang's wildlife protection station.
Guiyang's smart forestry cloud platform covers four sections: the supervision of forest resources, forestry disaster emergency response, forest cultivation, and industrial development.
Guiyang in recent years has invested 22.55 million yuan ($3.25 million) to build 13 forest fire control centers and 87 remote forest fire monitoring systems. One monitoring point covers an area of about 20 square kilometers.
The monitoring system has been connected to the forestry platform, which can monitor forest fires 24 hours a day in real time.
