In order to optimize the landscape in terms of the tree species planted there, solve problems related to the poor arrangement of different species and their insufficient ability to resist forestry disasters, Guiyang has made great efforts to improve the quality of local forest belts around the city in recent years.
With 2.18 million mu (145,600 hectares) of forest belts as their main focus, experts prepared a plan to improve the quality of Guiyang's forests. The city also carried out pilot construction work at Changpo Ridge State-owned Forest Farm and Guiyang Shunhai State-owned Forest Farm.
The forest belt around the city is rich in forest resources and complex in topography. The reconstruction of its masson pine forest is a challenging task, featuring high technical and large capital requirements.
Guiyang has been actively pushing to engage the support of the central government. It obtained a subsidy fund of 10 million yuan ($1.45 million) for its national ecological civilization pilot zone and a provincial forestry reform and development fund of 4 million yuan to guarantee the implementation of the reconstruction project.
In the process of undertaking the pilot construction project, any trees in bad condition were removed, and the mixed proportion of broad-leaved forest was greatly increased to enrich the level of biodiversity. At present, more than 17,000 native trees such as crape myrtles and ginkgos have been planted in the city.
