The Guiyang bureau of ecology and environment in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, won second place in a short-video competition aimed at promoting science. An award ceremony was held in Guiyang on April 23 to honor the winners of the competition, who made a total of 109 short videos, local media reported.
The competition was jointly organized by the Guizhou Association for Science and Technology, the Cyberspace Office of the Communist Party of China Guizhou Provincial Committee and the province's Department of Education and Health Commission.
Among the winning videos was one produced by the Guiyang Bureau of Ecology and Environment focusing on a local power-generating company's efforts in environmental protection. It tells the story of how the first comprehensive treatment incineration power generation project for household waste in Guiyang can achieve so-called "harmless and reduced" waste treatment, convert waste into electricity, and achieve a green and environmentally-friendly treatment process of secondary recycling.
"The Kidney of the Earth – Wetland", a video produced by the Guiyang Ecological Science Popularization Center, also won second place. It popularized the types, ecological functions, and biodiversity of wetlands in Guiyang and called on the public to take care of the wetlands and protect what is commonly known as the "Kidney of the Earth".
The competition aims to get all of society to care about, support and participate in science popularization and actively participate in the construction of an ecological civilization.
