The exhibited works – flowers made of coconut shells and cardboard monsters – were made by teachers and students of Zhongtian Mingting Primary School in Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.
They brought waste materials to the school to refashion them while expressing their understanding of the importance of protecting the environment.
Fu Chengyu, a teacher from the school, led the project. She said the goal is to integrate activities promoting a low-carbon economy and environmental protection into the students' curriculum.
In addition to the art exhibition, from April 22 to 30 the Guiyang bureau of ecology and environment will select volunteers to further publicize environmental protection, as well as organizing a show of skills and other themed activities related to World Earth Day.
