Guiyang, Guian promote crop straw utilization

Last year, Guiyang and Guian realized multi-channel and multi-level comprehensive utilization of straw resources through fertilizer, feed, raw material, fuel and base material conversion, with utilization rate reaching 89.42 percent.

By helping farmers convert crop straw into silage, which can be used as feedstock for cows, beef cattle, mutton sheep and other livestock in Guiyang, the utilization area of straw feed has reached 437,900 mu (29,193 hectares).

Since the start of last year, 18 enterprises and cooperatives in Guiyang and Guian have invested 18 million yuan ($2.62 million), recycled 43,200 metric tons of crop straw, and built a straw resource trading information sharing platform.

Guiyang and Guian will continue to combine the comprehensive utilization of crop straw with the prevention and control of air pollution and rural and forest fire fighting, as well as improve the system of straw purchase, storage and transportation.
