Guizhou has comprehensively adhered to ecology priority and green development in recent years.
The now clear Songxi River, in Wudang district in the city, was once a polluted and odorous river. With the rapid development of industries in the city, the eutrophication of the urban section of the river became a serious problem that the city needed to address.
To solve this problem, in 2016, the district implemented a series of renovation measures such as river dredging and ecological restoration. It also formed ecological landscapes such as a footpath park and a wetland park to further improve natural conditions.
At the same time, Wudang district has made several breakthroughs in the comprehensive treatment of air pollution, and the air quality in the district has continued to improve.
As a result, the district was listed in the first batch of "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets" innovation bases in China in 2017.
Since then, by relying on its ecological advantages, Wudang has vigorously promoted the integrated development of its agriculture, culture and tourism sectors. From this integration, a new tourism model has gradually emerged.
Tourists to the district can now "enjoy flowers in spring, avoid the heat in summer, pick fruits in autumn, and soak in natural springs in winter". In 2021, the tourism revenue of Wudang district reached 9.27 billion yuan ($1.33 billion), up 24.42 percent year on year.
