The first stop of the Guiyang Biodiversity Tour can be found in the city's Zhucheng Square, which comprehensively displays the city's biodiversity survey results.
At the tour site, the alien and invasive species that were found in Guiyang were also displayed, such as the animal invasive species: pomacea canaliculata, or the invasive plants: Canadian goldenrod and mirabilis jalapa.
Xiang Gang, associate professor of the School of Geography and Environmental Sciences at Guizhou Normal University, said, "After investigation, 77 invasive species have been found in Guiyang, and this number will increase in the future."
"In the field survey of the Maotiao River basin, we found that eupatorium adenophorum, which has caused adverse ecological effects in some areas of Southwest China's Guizhou province, in Yunyan district, Xiuwen county and Qingzhen city in Guiyang. This situation should be closely monitored," Xiang added.
The prevention and control of alien species and the protection of the natural biodiversity are important links in building a biosafety barrier. The Guiyang bureau of ecology and environment will establish a database for biological species and distribution resources in Guiyang. It will also set up a monitoring and early warning system for biological diversity in Guiyang, while also implementing a protection system for Guiyang's natural ecology.
In addition, the city will contribute to further promote the comprehensive protection of Guiyang's important ecosystems, biological species and biological genetic resources.
