Feb 2 marked the 27th World Wetlands Day, with the theme of "Wetland Restoration".
In recent years, Guiyang and Guian New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province have taken a series of measures to strengthen the protection and restoration of its wetlands.
Wetlands have important ecological functions and play a significant role in maintaining biodiversity, carbon fixation, and emission reduction. They also help in mitigating and preventing natural disasters.
At present, Aha Lake, Hongfeng Lake, Baihua Lake and Guanshan Lake have been recognized as important provincial wetlands by the provincial government. It is estimated that there will be 67 wetland parks in Guiyang by 2030.
