According to a three-year-long biological diversity survey done by Guiyang, Guizhou's provincial capital, the city has abundant biological diversity with 1,630 species of plants, 241 species of fungus, 283 species of insects and 741 species of animals.
In 2019, Guiyang released a biological diversity survey implementation plan and a biological diversity protection plan. The survey investigated Guiyang's species, distribution patterns, resource quality, resource abundance, resource value, threatened species, protection and utilization status, priority protection, and utilization sequences.
The survey results show that Guiyang has recorded one new fungus species, 14 new insect species, and five new animal species.
In the future, the Guiyang bureau of ecology and environment will launch its biological diversity protection plan and guide, as well as establish a biological species and distribution resource database. It will also develop a biodiversity monitoring and early warning system, and a biodiversity protection system to protect the city's biological resources.
