According to representatives from the first annual academic meeting of the Guizhou Ornithology Society on Dec 7, the continuous improvement of the ecology and environment means that more and more birds can be seen in Guizhou. At present, there are about 520 bird species recorded in the province.
Li Zhumei, researcher from Guizhou Institute of Biology, Han Lianxian, professor from Southwest Forestry University, and Hu Canshi, associate professor from Guizhou University, were invited to give presentations at the meeting on the same day.
Hu introduced the unknown ecological habits of mandarin ducks. Hu spoke of their current population distribution in the province and the influencing factors of habitat selection.
"With the deepening of the survey and the participation of more and more bird watching enthusiasts, Guizhou bird records will continue to grow," Li stated.
It is understood that since its establishment in April 2021, the Guizhou Ornithology Society has assisted government departments at all levels in carrying out basic scientific research, investigation and monitoring of the biodiversity of birds. The group has also been involved in educating local residents by giving public science lectures.
