The State Forestry and Grassland Administration recently released a list of 26 national forest cities, which included three cities in Southwest China's Guizhou province. So far, five of the nine cities and prefectures in the province, including Guiyang, have been classified as national forest cities.

National forest city is the highest recognition of a city's ecological construction in China.

Back in November 2004, Guiyang became China's first national forest city, a reflection of the city's efforts to adhere to the path of ecological and green development. Guiyang began to build a forest belt around the city in 1954, and completed the first forest belt around the city, which had a total length of 70 kilometers, in 1990.

In 2000, Guiyang started construction on a second forest belt with a total length of 304 kilometers.

At the same time, the city built public welfare forests covering an area of 300,000 mu (20,000 hectares), and several national and local key projects have been carried out to connect scattered forests.

Taking Guiyang as the starting point, the province has promoted the construction of forest cities and built a distinctive forest city construction model.
