1st batch of forest carbon ticket transactions in Guiyang, Guian completed

As a holder of forest carbon tickets, Mengguan State-owned Forest Farm in Huaxi district signed a forest carbon ticket trading agreement with three construction units of related construction projects in Guanshanhu district a few days ago. The area of forest carbon tickets transferred through trading was 18 mu (1.2 hectares), with a value of 69,732 yuan ($9,713).

On Oct 12, Guiyang and Guian also released the Implementation Plan of Guiyang and Guian for Promoting Ecological Restoration by Using Forest Carbon Tickets (Trial).

The development of forest carbon sinks is recognized as the most efficient and eco-friendly carbon sequestration and emission reduction measure in the world and plays an important role in peaking carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality.

After years of development, relevant statistical monitoring methods for forest carbon sequestration are now relatively mature, but the transaction and value realization of forest carbon sequestration has proved difficult.

The main recipients of forest carbon tickets are forests undergoing afforestation, forest quality improvement projects and other projects, which have an area of more than 400 square meters, an afforestation period of more than one year and a survival rate of more than 85 percent since 2019 on land with clear ownership that is not cultivated according to national spatial planning, and met international and domestic standards to increase forest carbon sinks.

Guiyang and Guian have taken off-site vegetation restoration of forest-related cases as a breakthrough, restored forest ecosystems by subscribing for forest carbon tickets, and revitalized forest resources.
