The 21st China Ecology Congress opened in Guiyang on Aug 27 and lasted for four days. The conference was hosted by the Ecological Society of China.
The Ecological Society of China, established in 1979, is a mass organization of scientific and technical workers in the field of ecology in China.
At the conference, ecological experts and scholars from all over the country focused on the theme "New Mission of Ecological Science: Carbon Neutrality and Ecological Construction" to pursue a new future for ecological research.
Ouyang Zhiyun, chairman of the Chinese Ecological Society and director of the Eco-Environmental Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), delivered an opening speech at the conference. He said that the conference will help with the implementation of the ecological development concepts of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) and the concept that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets".
Jiao Nianzhi, an academician of the CAS, and Wu Fengchang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered video speeches online.
In addition, the ceremonies of the Ma Shijun Ecological Science Achievement Award and the Chinese Ecological Society Youth Science and Technology Award were held on site.
At the same time, the conference awarded licenses to 19 of the society's ecological science education bases and held the signing ceremony for a cooperative journal between the society's Ecosystem Health and Sustainability and Science – the official publication of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the largest scientific organization in the United States.
