It was learned at a press conference held by the Guiyang water affairs bureau on July 27 that from January to June, the quality of the water environment in Southwest China's Guiyang and Guian New Area was stable and improving.

All sections of water achieved a quality level above the provincial control level, and the water quality compliance rate of the 17 centralized drinking water sources at or above the county level in Guiyang and Guian was 100 percent.

Since 2017, Guiyang and Guian have promoted various tasks related to the river chief system in an orderly and effective manner. A total of 20 reclaimed water plants were built for the treatment of Nanming River, the number of reclaimed water plants in the Nanming River Basin increased from 14 to 34, and the sewage treatment capacity increased from 990,000 metric tons per day to 1,835,800 tons per day, capable of satisfying the current domestic sewage treatment needs of Guiyang.

The two regions also carried out an ecological health assessment of rivers and lakes and launched a local river and lake big data management information system and the "River Chief" app using big data technology.

The two regions have established a four-level river chief system, with the four levels being the city, county, township and village, with a total of 2,132 river chiefs covering 114 rivers in Guiyang and Gui'an.

Moving forward, Guiyang and Guian will continue working to reduce water pollution, industrial pollution, soil pollution, and agricultural surface pollution to further improve its water environments.
