Guiyang realizes harmless treatment of garbage

A presentation on a series of activities being undertaken to treat refuse harmlessly was recently held in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

Sponsored by the Guiyang bureau of ecology and environment, the presentation was made by Guiyang Zhongdian Environmental Protection Power Generation Co.

The activities are connecting the city's seven environmental protection facilities and the city is calling for more public participation in its ecological and environmental protection work.

Members of the public, volunteers and others visited a garbage recycling plant being operated by Guiyang Zhongdian Environmental Protection Power Generation and experienced firsthand how the refuse generated every day in a city can be recycled and treated in a green way.

Technical engineer Zhang Wang demonstrated how the large-scale equipment processed the garbage in an eco-friendly way.

"There is a closed concrete pit with a slight negative pressure, which can store about 11,351 metric tons of domestic garbage. Through reasonable partitioning and stacking, the garbage can be stored for about seven days," Zhang said.

"After fermentation, the garbage enters a combustion furnace and undergoes treatment processes such as flue gas, leachate and slag," the engineer added.

"Some residue is recycled into bricks and the fly ash is landfilled to achieve harmless treatment," Zhang said.

The refuse recycling and treatment company mainly covers domestic waste incineration in the Huaxi and Nanming districts and its daily processing capacity is 1,200 tons.
