The proportion of days with good ambient air quality in Guiyang – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – was 100 percent in January, according to the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, which announced the findings for national ambient air quality recently.
The ministry said that Guiyang ranked fourth among 168 key cities in the country for its clean air.
From 278 days of good air quality in Guiyang in 2013, to 324 days in 2015 and to more than 360 days in the past two years, the number of blue skies in Guiyang is increasing year by year.
The number of days that Guiyang's ambient air quality met the standard were 361 last year, while there was no moderate or worse than moderately polluted weather. The overall air quality rate was 98.9 percent and the ambient air quality reached the national secondary standard, ranking it 10th among 168 key cities and fourth among provincial capital cities.
According to senior officials of the Guiyang bureau of ecology and environment, last year the city focused on the prevention and control of ozone pollution. It also continued to implement comprehensive treatment of multiple pollutants, such as fine particulate matter and volatile organic compounds.
In addition, the city has carried out publicity campaigns on the prohibition and restriction of fireworks and firecrackers through multiple channels, to guide residents to reduce or cancel the display during the Spring Festival.
Moving forwards, Guiyang is expected to continue to ensure that the city's ambient air quality continues to improve.
