The 13th edition of the Ecological Civilization Theme Lecture Hall – a popular science activity about trees in the city – was hosted by the Guiyang bureau of ecology and environment on March 26. It was held at the Guiyang Ecological Science Museum, in the city of Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

"A 150-year-old tree can generate oxygen worth about $31,000 per year, absorb toxic gases and prevent air pollution worth about $63,000," said Song Xia, a graduate student from Guizhou University, who gave talks to visitors who participated in the activity.

"It turns out that in addition to planting trees, saving paper and using less-disposable chopsticks are all eco-friendly behavior," said a primary school student who participated in the activity.

A local resident, said her daughter had learned about trees in the second-grade last semester.

After listening to the expert's explanations, she felt the activity had broadened her daughter's horizons and enhanced her environmental awareness.
