Guiyang has been prioritizing the improvement of its natural environment in recent years. While improving environmental quality, it has also transformed natural resources into economic benefits.
Guiyang's river and lake big data management information system was put into use in January, allowing for 107 rivers in the city to be monitored and making them much easier to manage.
At the beginning of this year, construction started on ecological product economic base projects in Baiyun and Guanshanhu districts. Huaxi district was selected among the first group of provincial-level ecological and economic practice innovation bases on Feb 28.
Moving forward, the Guiyang bureau of ecology and Environment will work with the regional bureaus to promote environmental governance.
Guiyang will strengthen environmental protection and restoration, afforest 120,000 mu (8,000 hectares) of land area, and stabilize the air quality rate at more than 95 percent.
It will promote the harmless and safe disposal of sludge from urban sewage treatment plants, improve the water quality rate at State-controlled and provincial-controlled river cross-sections and centralized drinking water sources will remain stable at 100 percent.
In addition, problems such as the natural environment in the Yangtze River Economic Belt will be addressed.
