Guiyang sees strong results in environmental protection

Wei Dingmei, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Guiyang Municipal People's Congress, went to the Guiyang bureau of ecology and environment to investigate its work and held a symposium on Feb 22. Members of the bureau's leadership team attended the symposium.

At the symposium, Yang Bo, director of the bureau, reported on the overall status of its work. Through a cloud platform, he demonstrated environmental protection measures related to water, atmosphere, noise, solid waste disposal and utilization, and an environmental supervision grid.

Guiyang solved a series of serious ecological and environmental problems in 2021, and all 32 problems raised by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment have been rectified. The environmental security situation is now stable, and there were no major environmental emergencies throughout the year.

The quality of the environment has continued to improve. The water quality compliance rate and excellent rate of 28 nationally and provincially-controlled river sections were 100 percent and 96.43 percent, respectively, and 17 centralized drinking water sources above the county-level had a water quality compliance rate of 100 percent.

The excellent rate of ambient air quality was 98.9 percent, ranking 11th among 168 key cities and fourth among provincial capitals.
