The new sewage collection and treatment project at No 460 Jinguan lane in the district of Yunyan – located in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – reportedly started up in June this year and is said to be making a huge difference.
Through artificial dredging, new sewage pressure pipes, new septic tanks and new sewage-lifting pump stations, the black and smelly water problem at No 460 Jinguan lane has reportedly been completely solved.
"It used to be a rotten pond, which was very smelly," said resident Wu Qiyun, adding that the family did not open the windows all year round in the past, but now the living environment had improved.
In addition to the better conditions for locals in Jinguan lane, other places in Yunyan are also gradually becoming more beautiful.
A resident surnamed Zhou, who lives near Jinzhong River, witnessed it go from being a black and foul waterway to having clear and green water.
"In the past few years, the river was smelly and dirty, but after treatment, it is no longer smelly and the scenery has improved," he said.
"If the weather is clear, I go for a walk with my wife in Jinzhong River Park."
In recent years, guided by the concept of an ecological civilization, Yunyan has invested a total of 5.08 billion yuan ($797.88 million) to build a number of water plants. These have reportedly solved the problem of Nanming River's sewage overflows polluting the water.
In addition, the district has implemented projects for the treatment of urban black and odorous water, focusing on 12 such bodies of water in Yunyan, which have all reached acceptable standards.
