Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has been protecting its environment and reducing pollution. By the end of last year, 64 out of 69 of Guiyang's environmental problems discovered by inspection teams sent by the central government had been rectified.

In 2017, the seventh environmental protection inspection team sent by the central government pointed out the water pollution problem in Guiyang's Nanming River.

To improve the quality of the Nanming River's water, Guiyang established several water reclamation plants, increasing the Nanming River basin's sewage treatment capacity from 990,000 metric tons per day to 1.84 million tons per day.

In the same year, the inspection team also reported water eutrophication in the Wujiang River caused by net cage breeding. Guiyang demolished net cages in Wujiang River's Xifeng basin and helped fishermen change jobs in order to protect Wujiang River's water quality.

As Wujiang River's water quality improves, more and more tourists are coming to visit, allowing local villagers to profit from running farmhouses.

In 2018, the phosphorus pollutant problem in the Yangshui River came to the attention of officials. As a secondary branch river of the Wujiang River, the Yangshui River passes through Guiyang's Kaiyang and Xifeng counties, and was polluted by nearby phosphorus-related companies.

In September 2019, Yangshui River's environmental protection results passed an evaluation by the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences' work team in Guiyang. Today, Yangshui River's water quality is monitored every quarter, and the local government has taken nine measures to solve the river's pollution problem once and for all.
