The Baiyun district of Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has reportedly achieved excellent results in improving its ecological system and the environment.

In line with the concept of "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", Baiyun has strengthened the management of parks under its jurisdiction, established the Maijia River Ecology Culture Corridor and improved the greening of urban roads and landscapes.

To combat air pollution, efforts have been made to control industrial waste gas emissions, dust, coal-burning pollution, oil fumes and exhaust gases.

For water pollution control, Baiyun district has expanded the management of drinking water sources, prohibited new sewage outlets and banned some service industries that discharge sewage -- so as to ensure the water quality of central drinking water sources is 100 percent stable and meets the required standards.

Meanwhile, the implementation of a comprehensive treatment project for the Maijia River Basin, the Xiaowan River Basin and the Songjiachong River Basin has been undertaken, in a bid to eliminate urban black and odorous water bodies.

In addition, the Baiyun district is strictly controlling the use of contaminated land and is prohibiting the use of contaminated farmland to grow edible agricultural products.

It is banning the use of contaminated land that has not been fully restored for development and construction -- especially in the construction of residential, schools and other social projects.
