Adhering to the philosophy that "Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets," Kaiyang county in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, had made significant progress protecting the environment.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), the air quality of Kaiyang county ranked first in Guiyang every year.

Since 2016, the county's one county-level centralized drinking water source and 12 township-level centralized drinking water sources have had a 100 percent water quality compliance rate.

There was no increase in the number of heavy metal emissions enterprises or the amount of polluted land.

From 2016 to 2020, the county completed rural environmental improvement tasks in its 82 administrative villages, and finished improving the Yangshui River Basin, the county landfill, and four yellow phosphorus enterprises.

The quality of the environment has improved significantly, laying a solid foundation for the county's high-quality economic development.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Kaiyang will continue to combat air, water, soil, solid waste, and noise pollution, and advance plans to comprehensively treat rural areas in a bid to improve local residents' safety, comfort, and satisfaction.
