Nanming River – which flows through Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – has brought beautiful scenery to the whole city after years' efforts to improve the environment along the river.

The comprehensive reclamation program for the river started around 10 years ago.

Since 2012, Nanming River has completed 920,000 cubic meters of river dredging, and 73,000 square meters of ecological construction and partial ecological restoration.

A total of 15,300 sq m of shoal wetlands and 30,000 sq m of ecological revetments have been built as well.

Since 2017, 20 reclaimed water plants have been built along Nanming River, bringing the total number of such plants from 14 to 34.

Meanwhile, sewage treatment capacity has increased from 990,000 metric tons per day to 1.84 million tons per day.

In addition, the city has treated 19 major drainage ditches in the Nanming River Basin, with 50.3 kilometers of ditches being cleared and 52,800 cu m of silt dredging being removed.

These measures have helped solve the issues of heavy siltation, the blackening of water, and strong odor in the core section of the Nanming River.

All 25 black and odorous water bodies in the basin have been eliminated, and the water quality of the seven main tributaries now meets standards.
