According to a report on China's prevention and control of environmental noise pollution recently released by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Guizhou's provincial capital of Guiyang ranks among the best in China in acoustic environment quality.
Among Guiyang's 92 monitoring points, 97.8 percent met national standards during daytime and 89.1 percent met standards during night time. The nighttime rate ranked third among China's provincial capitals and municipalities.
In 2020, the environmental noise value in Guiyang's urban area was 55.2 dB and traffic noise was at 69.7 dB, meaning that Guiyang's urban area achieved the best acoustic environment quality during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20).
In recent years, Guiyang has adopted various measures to improve its acoustic environment. Over the past year, Guiyang enhanced traffic regulations, investigated 2,168 cases of illegal car horn honking, and added 141 "No honking" signs.
In 2020, Guiyang's 685 construction sites were equipped with auto monitoring systems for dust and noise to show data on PM 2.5, PM 10, and noise in real time. The city handled 6,537 cases of noise pollution from construction sites.
Guiyang also investigated 4,884 cases of noise pollution from business activities and started pilot projects for noise control at 22 schools and Lanhua Square. To prevent noise pollution from factories, five Guiyang enterprises invested 21.58 million yuan ($3.34 million) in reducing noise.
In the future, Guiyang will continue improving noise management and raising public awareness of noise pollution prevention and control.
