According to the 2020 communique on Guiyang's environment released by the Guiyang Bureau of Ecology and Environment on June 3, Guiyang's air quality continued to improve last year.
In 2020, Guiyang had 362 days with passable air quality, including 240 days with excellent air quality, 122 days with good air quality, and four days with mild pollution.
The excellent and good air quality rate was 98.9 percent, which is 0.8 percentage points higher than in 2019 and a record high. Guiyang's air quality ranked 10th among China's 168 major cities and fourth among all provincial capitals in 2020.
In 2020, all of Guiyang's river-cross sections met water quality standards, and 93.75 percent achieved excellent and good water quality. Guiyang's centralized drinking water sources also all met quality standards.
The average equivalent sound level of environmental noise and traffic noise in Guiyang's urban area during the daytime was 55.2 decibels and 69.7 decibels, respectively.
Guiyang's terrestrial gamma radiation dose rate, air's radon concentration, and activity concentration of radionuclide were all at a normal level in 2020.
In the future, Guiyang will focus on biodiversity protection and the protection of mountains, waters, forests, farmlands, lakes, grasslands and deserts, as well as establish an evaluation system for resource and environmental bearing capacity.
Guiyang has also begun researching how to peak its carbon dioxide emissions so as to build a green, low-carbon, and cyclic economic system.
Guiyang will also explore a construction, management, maintenance, and operation mechanism for environmental protection infrastructure and build a modern environmental governance system.
