The Guiyang Economic and Technological Development Zone or GETDZ and Wudang district – both located in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – held a series of publicity campaigns on June 4 to celebrate this year's World Environment Day.

The events emphasized a call for harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.

Various residents in the GETDZ participated in the events, including key pollutant discharge units, companies above a designated size – those with annual revenue of 20 million ($3.1 million) or more – and administrative departments.

Apart from broadcasting videos and distributing brochures, the GETDZ event featured special lectures given by leading environmental experts on the classification and criteria for pollutant discharges, but also offered special training on the management of solid and hazardous waste.

Meanwhile, the district adopted online and offline promotional approaches. Banners, brochures and exhibition boards were used to increase public awareness about relevant laws and regulations.

Science books, cartoons and short videos on the internet also did their bit to raise the profile of the need for environmental protection.
