Guiyang is taking steps to rein in excessive noise from public announcement broadcasts on campuses in the city, according to a report released on April 25.
A promotion meeting was held on April 23 by Guiyang's municipal bureau of ecology and environment and the municipal bureau of education to advance the pilot project.
The meeting was attended by local environmental and education departments and representatives from 22 schools to introduce the basic situation of school governance. Participants discussed a variety of topics concerning the optimization of treatment mechanisms, the noise-reduction project construction period and the epidemic prevention and control measures.
It was decided at the meeting that departments will be required to create relevant coordination mechanisms to achieve the goal of reducing campus broadcasting noise. Also, to-the-point measures to reduce campus noise shall be put in place, while strict measures need to be taken to ensure the smooth implementation of pandemic prevention and control measures during the construction of noise-reduction projects.
The pilot work was highly praised by the Guizhou Provincial Environmental Protection Department, which called for increased efforts to cut down campus broadcasting noise.
