The first batch of five automobile exhaust emission pollution maintenance and treatment stations, also known as "M stations", were put into use on Oct 30, 2020 in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province. The stations aim to help control auto emission pollution and improve the environment.

Over the past six months, the city has promoted the construction of M stations to improve air quality and enhance people's sense of well-being.

According to city regulations, regularly used motor vehicles are expected to visit the motor vehicle emission inspection agencies (I stations) for emission inspections. Vehicles that fail the examinations shall go to M stations within 15 workdays to get repairs and their information should be reported to the local ecology and environment department.

To eliminate fraud in vehicle exhaust treatment, 360-degree video monitoring has been installed at the five M stations, and regulatory authorities can view the stations in real time.

The owners of vehicles that fail to meet the exhaust emission standards and who don't get repairs within 15 workdays will be fined 200 yuan ($30.82).
