Guiyang highlights safe production

A conference with the theme of "safe production" was held on April 1 in Guiyang city – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – to stress that industrial production and manufacturing should be safe, especially when it comes to its impact on the environment.

Yang Bo, director of Guiyang's bureau of ecology and environment, emphasized during the conference the importance of safe production – calling on the authorities to assume more responsibility and improve their assessments and execution of the rules to ensure that production is not harmful.

Yang said that there needed to be a greater sense of urgency about the issue.

The authorities are currently tasked with checking and monitoring hidden dangers in nuclear and radiation areas, hazardous chemicals, enterprises which can pose environmental risks and drinking water sources.

In addition, it is widely felt that offline and online platforms – such as Weibo and WeChat – need to be utilized, to improve awareness among the general public of the need for safe production and manufacturing.

Another proposal is for personnel on emergency duties to be organized, so they conduct regular inspections and investigations.
