Guiyang – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – is continuing on the path to green development, unswervingly promoting green transformation in its economic and social development and is heading towards evolving into an eco-civilized city during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period.
Since the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), Guiyang's coverage rate of forests has increased to 55 percent from 46.5 percent. The per-capita greening area in the well-developed community has been enlarged to 13.16 square meters from 10.95 sq m.
In addition, the excellence rate of air quality has increased to 98.9 percent, stably meeting the national secondary air quality standard. The quality of drinking water sources has also remained excellent, all reaching 100 percent.
Elsewhere, emission reductions of major pollutants is under provincial targets and environmental noise and road traffic noise in downtown areas both meet national standards.
According to Yang Bo, director of the Guiyang municipal bureau of ecology and environment, Guiyang will foster the construction of an ecological monitoring system, strengthen pollution treatment and optimize the ecological pattern of nature.
It is understood that Guiyang will further emphasize the prevention and control of ozone pollution, the treatment of its urban and rural environment, as well as act on soil pollution, the construction of a beautiful countryside and strive for perfection of its supervision system and emergency system in ecological protection.
At the same time, industries in Guiyang will continue to stride towards the mid-to-high end of global value chains and in turn produce more ecological benefits. A modern environmental treatment system – stressing all-process and all-people participation – is on the way.
