According to local authorities, Baiyun district in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, achieved remarkable progress in pollution prevention and ecological development in 2020.
In the past year, the district invested 540 million yuan ($83.38 million) in increasing its urban green space by 173,300 square meters, and its excellent and good air quality rate reached 99.4 percent.
Local authorities said that Baiyun has accelerated the rectification of environmental problems, treating four polluted and smelly water bodies.
It also pushed forward the construction of sewage treatment projects, and the district has nearly completed 11 such projects with a total investment of 193 million yuan. Rivers in the district have seen noticeable water quality improvement.
The district also strictly controlled the emission of environmental pollutants and focused on improving air, water, soil and rural ecological quality, improving living environment for residents.
