To control the illegal collection, transfer and operation of used and waste lead-acid storage batteries and engine oil, the Guiyang bureau of ecology and environment – located in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou – held a symposium on Nov 18 to map out a strategy.
According to the official report, nine local operations in charge of hazardous waste were invited to attend the meeting.
During the meeting, the bureau put together concrete measures to reduce the problem and a powerful working system, together with a clear target, was given priority.
In addition, based on the newly revised prevention and control of solid waste pollution law, relevant governmental departments were ordered to boost publicity and promote awareness of their responsibilities among manufactures and other associated parties.
In addition, a problem list of items to strengthen investigations was launched to ensure legal behavior when treating waste batteries and engine oil.
Meanwhile, a strict waste-monitoring system was outlined and illegal behavior such as false declarations, illegal storage, random dumping, illegal collection and transfers will receive heavy punishment.
