Guiyang celebrates improved water quality

Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has abundant water resources and has seen continuous water quality improvement, according to the latest report released by Guiyang's bureau of ecology and environment on Oct 22.

A total of 107 rivers, 55 functional water zones and 16 drinking water source areas above the county level have experienced monthly monitoring and evaluation by the county and province. The intention is to safeguard water quality.

According to the report, the water quality of Xifeng county in Guiyang topped the list from January to September, while Yunyan district came last.

During this period, 16 monitored sections controlled by the country and province were above grade III, the third-highest in China's five-tier quality-rating system for surface water, with the average standard rating hitting 100 percent and the excellence rate achieving 93.75 percent.

Also, 89.72 percent of surface water in the river was above grade III, securing the list's 96th position. Meanwhile, four rivers ranked below grade V, accounting for 3.74 percent of the total.

Forty-six functional areas achieved the water-quality standard – a rate of 83.64 percent.

The centralized drinking water source areas across the city were all grade III, with the rate reaching 100 percent. Among them, 11 drinking water source areas were classified as grade II.
