Guiyang – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – is taking concrete action in the prevention and control of soil pollution.

The city has taken the lead in completing the collection, analysis and testing of soil samples of key industries and enterprises.

That's according to a report released by the Guiyang bureau of ecology and environment on Sept 10.

The report announced a number of main measures to curb soil pollution. Guiyang bureau of ecology and environment will increase on-the-spot inspections.

Soil samples that do not meet required levels will lead to official warnings to those responsible for the soil pollution.

In addition, Guiyang is sifting through its key industries and companies and has completed the inspection and information registration of 199 enterprises from October 2017 to the first half year last year.

Guiyang is also moving to capture the dynamics of the soil pollution situation.

In the wake of a full inquiry, the Guizhou environmental protection department confirmed that the land occupied by 24 companies had a high risk of soil pollution -- including Sinopec's Guiyang oil depot and a plot occupied by an experimental plant operated by the Guizhou Academy of Sciences.

The collection of soil samples pioneered by Guiyang was launched last November and in April this year, leading to the completion of soil sample collection, analysis and testing on Sept 7.

This marked the successful surveying of key industries and industrial land use in Guiyang.
