Guiyi and Liuguangmen water reclamation plants, situated in the Yunyan district of Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, were put into operation on June 30, marking significant progress towards Nanming River's environmental improvement.
Guiyi water reclamation plant on Xinggui road, which covers an area of 17.1 mu (1.14 hectares), has been built with an investment of 751 million yuan ($107.1 million), while Liuguangmen water reclamation plant, located on the former site of the Guiyang People's Stadium with an area of 34.35 mu, is supported with a total investment of 1.26 billion yuan.
Both of the plants are capable of providing 50,000 and 120,000 metric tons of water per day respectively, with higher quality.
With a buried depth of around 31 meters, the plants have won praise as the deepest fully-buried water plants, and as the first water reclamation plants connected with commercial complexes in China.
In addition, both projects are integrated with municipal infrastructure, the ecological environment, and urban buildings, which boosts intensive land use and facilitates the improvement of the urban environment.
"The projects meet the standards of a national 'green factory', and take the initiative to introduce ecological and energy-efficient ideas," said Liu Yuqi, a chief engineer of CECEP Water Development Co. "All sewage can be recycled to solve the problems of water shortage and water pollution at the same time. They also provide inspiration for space utilization and urban environmental protection."
As well as the operation of the plants, Yunyan district has also made great efforts to innovate Yanwu street functional zone and Liuguangmen high-end centers for sports and culture, which simultaneously seek growth as well as a balance between economic, ecological and social benefits.
